EVENT RECAP | OTR x Movember Shave-Off 2011

Before the month of Movember began, owner Joel Carman pledged to make the ultimate sacrifice: if he raised $25,000 for prostate cancer, he would shave off his 44-year old signature mustache. An ambitious goal with personal meaning. When our Movember Kick-Off Party took place on November 1, Joelhad already raised $16,000. By day’s end, thanks to a generous donation by Movember co-sponsor TOMS Shoes, the $25,000 goal had already been achieved. As the month went on, Joel and his team from Over the Rainbow would end up raising over $41,000, while getting an outpouring of support from friends family, as well as comments on his personal MoSpace page.

As a result of Joel Carman’s fundraising efforts, the media caught wind of this remarkable story and decided to cover it on the day of our Final Shave-Off event. In case you missed all the press on this day, here is a list of all the people who covered our story:

CTV Canada AM broadcasted the actual “shave-off” of Joel’s epic mustache. His family was on-hand to witness this moment live on-air. He was also joined by his friend Ron Telpner, who is currently fighting prostate cancer.
