FITTED | Afiya Francisco
FITTED is an ongoing blog series interviews prominent Toronto-based writers, artists, media personalities & loyal customers who either shop or engage with our store on some level. For this edition of FITTED, we sat down with Afiya Francisco, the founder of TheStyleHouse.Ca, the Editor-At-Large Real Style Magazine and a regular on TV programs including The Morning Show, Steven & Chris and Entertainment Tonight Canada. Afiya was also recently chosen to be the campaign model for Over the Rainbow‘s newest collaboration with Paige Premium Denim, in honour of our store’s 40th anniversary. We asked Afiya about her experience as the face of our campaign, as well as her career in fashion.
Q: How long have you been involved in the fashion world?
AF: About nine years; I can hardly believe it!!
Q: How do you enjoy TV versus editorial?
AF: Love them both but there’s something extra magical about the immediacy of TV and the dynamic and interaction with the host(s).
Q: What do you think draws people to your fashion advice?
AF: I think people like the “realness” of it. I love a deal and have two kids so my fashion picks work for real life and real budgets. I love designer splurges but it has got to be worth it and I try to explain why that is.
Q: What was your inspiration behind “The Style House”?
AF: It’s about essentialism and the belief that we don’t need a lot but what we do have we should love. Everything, even the most practical and mundane, can be beautiful.
Q: How would you describe your personal style?
AF: Easy tomboy chic…if that’s a thing!
Q: What is the one “must have” piece in your wardrobe?
AF: The perfect white tee.
Q: How do you like being the face of Over the Rainbow’s collaboration with Paige Premium Denim?
AF: So thrilled and flattered to be offered the opportunity to collaborate with two such iconic brands. They both represent everything that I stand for aesthetically: timeless fundamentals that you will wear again and again.
