Packaging

During the transition to our new retail store, Over the Rainbow re-designed all its current packaging to include 100% recyclable materials. Some of the recent changes include:

  • Shopping bags made from strong 210 GSM cardboard stock to promote reuse by consumers as shopping bags for clothing and other desired items
  • E-commerce poly mailers designed with resealable adhesive tape to make it a reusable return package if necessary
  • Garment bags made from sturdy 100 GSM PPNW material to promote reuse by consumers as travel bags for clothing or other desired items
  • Garment wrapping paper is made from a lightweight 40 GSM biodegradable material which is more durable and recyclable than tissue paper

    Energy

During the transition to our new retail store, Over the Rainbow hired local consultants to source and install energy efficient LED light bulbs and heating/ventilation/conditioning (HVAC) units. We have also created better internal practices to further reduce energy use in our retail store, storage and office spaces.

    Waste Minimization

Over the Rainbow is very mindful of waste consumption and has taken measures to ensure the reuse, reduction or elimination of wasteful products, including:

    1. Manulife Centre has implemented an on-site recycling program used for cardboard boxes and paper products
    2. Reusable kitchen supplies are used in our staff lunch room to reduce the use of paper and plastic products
    3. All incoming fax transmissions are automatically converted to electronic PDF files, thereby eliminating paper copy faxes
    4. Our buying team works with several digital platforms to reduce the use of paper line sheets; any paper collected is properly recycled at the end of the season.
